Fun Squash Drills To Spice Up Your Routine
Here are some fun and effective squash drills to spice up your regular training routine:
King of the Court
This drill is an exciting way to practice all-around court movement and shot selection. Three or more players take turns hitting shots from anywhere on the court, with the goal of being the last person remaining. When you miss a shot, you rotate out and the next player enters. Vary the rules by allowing only certain shot types or introducing zones where points are doubled.[1]
Round the World
Set up targets (cones, paper cups) in each corner of the court. Players take turns hitting a specific shot (drive, volley, boast) to knock down each target in sequence. Make it competitive by keeping score or timing each round. This drill improves accuracy and shot versatility.[2]
Crosscourt Chaos
Two players start a regular crosscourt rally, but must alternate hitting straight and crosscourt shots. Whoever breaks the pattern is out. This drill enhances anticipation, footwork, and the ability to quickly change directions.[1][2]
Trickshot Squash
Similar to traditional squash, players attempt to hit legal “trickshots” like between-the-legs or behind-the-back shots to score points against their opponent. This creative drill boosts hand-eye coordination and adds an entertaining flair.[1]
Handicap Games
Give one player a handicap like using an older racquet style, standing in a designated zone, or hitting with their non-dominant hand. This evens the playing field and forces players to strategize around limitations.[1][3]
Incorporating these engaging drills will inject some fun into your squash sessions while still providing valuable practice for skills like movement, shot-making, and court awareness.[1][2][3]
